Allaah says; "And be indeed we sent Messengers before you [O Muhammad], and for them wives and children. And it was not for a Messenger to bring a sign except by Allaah's leave . [For] every matter there is a decree (From Allaah). (Q 13:38)
633 CE: The Military Expedition to Syria and Palestine. After having been able to suppress the rebellion [of apostasy] at home, the leader of the Muslims Abubakr [RA], now turned his attention to the conquest of Syria and Palestine on the Byzantine border which he regarded as more important. Even the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] in his lifetime showed interest in it and sent an expedition under his adopted son Zayd bin Haritha, to the Syrian border in the year 629. But expedition was not successful. Zayd died in that expedition.
In 633, Abubakr [RA] organised three armies of 3,000 soldiers each and put them under the command of Yazid bn Abu Sufyan [his father Abu Sufayn, the Makkan leader who once fought in many battles against Muslims, was the governor of Najran and Hijaz], Shurahbil bn Hasana and Amr bn al- As [who was later to become famous for his conquest of Egypt in 640-2 and three times its governor]. The first two columns-entered Jordan, while Amr lead his troops to south-eastern Palestine, and near Gaza. They conquered the small army under the local governor, Sergius................
