Pray Two rakah before you leave
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recommended to us to pray two travel before we start our journey. He said, "A servant (of Allaah) does not leave anything better behind for his family than two rakah that he prays with them at the time he is going to traver (Tabarani)
Say A Dua Before Leaving Home
When saying farewell to the one-who is leaving, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us to say, "Astaudiu-lIaha deenaka wa amaanataka wa khawaateema amalika" (Ahmad)
The Meaning. "I entrust your religion, those you are in charge of and your final deeds to Allaah" (Abu Dawud)
The one leaving should respond with the following words; Astaudiuka-lIaaha-lIadhee laa tadeeu wadaaiuhu. ,.. The Meaning. "I place you in the trust of Allaah Who never wrongs any trust" (Ibn al-Sunee)
On The journey
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught to us to say these words of remembrance when get on board our means of transportation; Allaahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar . Allaahu Akbar. Subhanalladhee sakhara lanaa hadha wa maa kunna lahu muqrineena wa innaa ilaa rabbinaa lamunqaliboon. Allaahumma innaa nasaluka fee safarinaa hadha-I-birra wa-ttaqwa wa mina- I-amali ma tardaa Allahumma hawwina alaina safarinaa hadhaa wa-twi anna budahu Allahumma anta- saahibu fee-safari wa-Ikhaleefatu fee-I-ahli Allahumma innee audhu bika min wathai-ssafari wa kaabati-I-mandari wa suui munqalabi fee-I- maali wa-I-ahli wa mina-I-hauri bada-I-kauni wa min dawati-Imadhloom. The Meaning. Allaah is the Greatest. Allaah is the Greatest. Allaah is the Greatest. Glory be to the one who subjugated this for us and we ourselves would not have been capable of that. And our final journal is to our Lord. O Allaah, we ask You in this travel for piety and righteousness and for deeds that are pleasing to you. O Allaah, make this traveling easy for us and make the distance shortened for us. O Allaah, You are the Companion during the travel and the One who is left behind with the family. O Allaah, I seek refuge in you from the hardship of travel, from seeing what is displeasing to me (occur to my family or wealth) from an iIl-fated outcome for the wealth or family, and from al-haur after al-kaur (disbelief after faith, disobedience after obedience or from good affairs to evil ones) and from the supplication of the one who is wronged. (Muslim and Tirmidhi).
Pray On Your Journey
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged us to supplicate while traveling and that our prayer will be accepted if we do. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are three supplications that are responded to without any doubt concerning them: the supplication of the father, the supplication of the traveler and the supplication of the one who is wronged". (Abu Dawud)
