Show-off is defined as absence of sincerity in the intention of a person i.e. a person is doing something for the sake of that of what which he appears to be doing it. It can also be defined as the act of doing something in order to win praises from people rather than for the sake of Allaah, if it is an act of worship.
This is forbidden in Islam especially in the case of where that thing is supposed to be an act of worship. Show-off are off different levels with some one more severe than others. Some of them even lead people outside the fold of Islam
