Do you have limbs that work? Good, but it is your tongue profuse with thanking Allaah for this huge favour? Are those limbs working in ways of gratitude to their creator who gave them mobility? We should always be grateful that we can use our limbs as we like, after all, we do not need to look too far before we see those who either have no hands or no legs or have either or both of them but they do not function. We have no right whatsoever to look down on them or make fun of them because, just like us, they are also creatures of Allaah.
Rather, they should serve as a living example of Allaahs great mercies and power. We should also learn from some of these people especially those who in their condition go out of their way to worship Allaah. Does this not make them far better than us? After all, to have no limbs at all is better than having those that constantly disobey Allaah.
Dont forget that whatever physical disability a person has, Allaah has created him or her in the best way for such a person, for Allaah says: "He has created the Heavens and the Earth with truth, and He shaped you and made good your shapes, and to Him is the final return." (Q 64: 3). He also says: "O man! What has made you careless concerning your Lord, the most Generous? Who created you, fashioned you perfectly and gave you due proportion; In whatever form He willed, He put you together." (Q82:6-8). He also says: "Verily, We created man of the best stature (mould)." (Q 95:4).
If you are reading this, in whatever situation you find yourself, whether you have one form of "disability" or the other, remember to always thank Allaah for giving you life and most importantly making you a Muslim, for you are among the best of mankind. If on the other hand you think you are "o.k.", remember to be mindful of those limbs of yours. Dont forget that the two angels (each on your right and left) are recording whatever you do with them.
Hasten to do good deeds and enjoin others in this. Move away as fast as you can from evil. Are you just going to turn to the next page or will you say Alhamdulilah? "Which of the favours of your Lord will you deny?"(Q 55).
