Some say this is the worlds most widely read book; others call it the scripture of we Muslims; some think it governs the practice of the religion of Islam; someone once referred to it as "a great miracle for mankind, sufficient to engage the thoughts of those who think, who are wise, who understand and who have knowledge." No doubt, the Quran means different things to different people, but one fact remains sure; that the Quran is one of Allaah's greatest favours upon mankind.
There is hardly anyone (especially Muslims) who does not know what the Quran is. In most Muslim homes, there is at least one copy in the house. It also comes in various languages, Arabic being the language in which it was revealed, is the most common. We however have those translated to English, Hausa, Yoruba and so many languages all over the world.
The Quran is really a favour and miracle from Allaah because it remains the only book in the world1that is accurate and has not been altered to suit peoples . desires. While other scriptures have different versions and testaments, the Quran has neither versions nor testaments. The Arabic original is the same and in meanings, the various translations remain the same! Very often, when non-muslims are confronted with certain parts of their scripture, they find escape in the sayings "it is from the Old Testament" or "it is from this or that version." This never happens with the Quran! No matter who publishes it, the meaning is the same.
Allaah says He has made this possible. He says: "Do they not then consider the Quran carefully? Had it been from any other than AIlaah, they would surely have found therein many contradictions." (Q 4:82). Also, Allaah makes us realize that the Quran is from Him and that is why unlike other books, it is free from mistakes. He says: "Say: If the mankind and the jinns were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another."(Q 17:88).
The Quran is truly a guide for us from Allaah. He sent it through Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings be upon him] to help us attain success not only in this world, but a/so in the hereafter. "The Most Beneficent (AIlaah)! Has taught (you mankind) the Quran (by His mercy).(Q 55:1-2).
It (the Quran) also serves as a reminder for us of the life of the hereafter and our purpose on earth. Allaah says: "And indeed We have given you from Us a Reminder (this Quran). Whoever turns away from it (this Quran- i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily, they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection. "(Q20:99-100).
